Parental alienation occurs when one parent prioritizes their hatred toward their former partner over the well-being of their children. It’s one of the most painful, disorienting experiences a parent can go through. It’s not just loss; it’s an ambiguous loss. Your child is still alive, but the relationship is disrupted or distorted, creating a unique kind of grief.

Real stories from Tessie Robins that validate the pain of parental alienation, practical tools to move from surviving to truly living again, insight into common patterns — and how to break them, powerful self-care strategies for mental and physical strength, guidance for handling triggers and emotional setbacks, ways to advocate for your child–even from a distance.

Tessie Robins is a non-authorship contributor of development for this new book that summarizes the key principles underlying parental alienation theory, a topic that remains disputed within family law. This document aims to foster an ongoing dialogue, inviting researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to help refine and expand upon these principles in future editions. Edits, suggestions, and corrections to this book are welcome and will be incorporated into future editions of this Official Synopsis. The ultimate hope is that this document evolves into a widely accepted consensus on parental alienation theory.
The book’s open-access PDF is available on the Parental Alienation Study Group’s website, www.pasg.info. You can download and read the PDF, but DO NOT post it anywhere on the internet. There should be one master copy, which is at www.pasg.info. The book will be revised in a year or so and again after that, so there should not be numerous versions on various websites.
PDF version available online on May 24, 2025. A printed version of the book will be available in July 2025.
